How To Style Big Rooms & Open Spaces: Part IV

Finishing Touches

We’re approaching a fully styled room!  Didn’t get a chance to read the other installments of How To Style Big Rooms & Open Spaces?  Click the links for Part I, Part II, or Part III to catch up anytime.

Now, to pull your look together, its time to add the finishing touches to your room.  Fabrics & Accessories are what I like to think of as the jewelry of a room.  And a big room lends itself to the option of lush window treatments, colors and heavier fabrics.

Think mixing textures in the same color family for interest.  The scale of the space is perfect for adding decorative upholstered seating in fabrics like velvets, tapestries and leathers.  Its another chance to define zones with different upholstery fabrics of the same color family — a cushy chenille sectional to lounge on in the entertainment space, leather club chairs in the reading nook and a tapestry love-seat for the fireside conversation zone.

If you’re budget conscious, spend less on trendy, convertable accessories — throws, accent pillows, framed art pieces — and focus on the larger pieces that will anchor the room and make it functional for your family.

Before I leave you, I’d be remiss if I didn’t throw in a word or two about lighting.  To me, this is an essential part of any design.  In large spaces, lighting can make or break your design.  Take time to create an ambiance with lighting.

Enjoy your room in a BIG way!
